dog-proof your car

So you want to take a road trip with your pup. Maybe you want to just run to the park and run around with your four-legged friend. The car isn’t immediately the most dog-durable place for your pup. Here are a few tips we’ve learned from our travels:

  • Use a water-proof dog-hammock! These are great for keeping your pup’s hair, any leftover lake water, and dirt away from the rest of your interior. If you don’t have a hammock, a blanket can work just as well

  • We use a wool blanket for the seats! This catches all types of dog hair and dirt. (yes even the fluffy hair that floats around the car)

  • When your pup sheds A LOT, try this FurzOff Pet hair remover. Works great on our carpets. A rubber brush helps to get the hard to reach corners

  • Microfiber towels are your friend. They take in a ton of water and can stow to be pretty compact. Use them on the dog, use them for your seats, maybe don’t use the same one for both.

  • Some seat cleaner (or something like SimpleGreen) will be a good way to keep your car interior looking new. Also, your windows will probably have a bunch of nose prints on them

  • Clean any drool marks if you can – we fostered a dog who drooled puddles out the side of the car. This can cause sun spotting especially with dark paint.
